ScienZe And Noah Bility Are Nothing Less Than ‘Stellar’

image

I am TEAM Noah Bility around these parts.  If the baby haired wonder tells me to listen to his music, I listen.  Noah was featured on the last verse of “Stellar” with ScienZe, a Brooklyn emcee with a love for education and Hip Hop.  When he’s not doing after school music concerts to empower New York City’s youth, ScienZe rhymes over lush Hip Hop jazz compositions destined for the repeat button.  Producer Clint Partie created a warm, inviting sound that is absolutely timeless.  ”Stellar”, in my rom com obsessed mind, is the soundtrack to my dream date.  ScienZe and Noah’s lyrics paint a picture of a romantic evening where the intimacy doesn’t require a bedroom.  There’s nothing like a sensitive black man and Hip Hop music for slow dancing.  Soundcloud  Facebook  Twitter   Bandcamp

Champion’s Edition Spends Sundays With Lola

I have this irrational fear that my future husband is in a back alley somewhere using bath salts.  As I mentioned before, I’ve been attracted to Christian guys less than the Knicks have won playoff games.  I have faith that God is preparing me as a wife, but I struggle in my belief that a non-sketchy Christian man is available.

This society puts so much pressure on a woman to be “ready for marriage” that I was pleased to see the other side.  Noah Bility and producer Suede Hernandez (as Champion’s Edition) created a song that puts the listener within the psyche of a man wanting to initiate a relationship. “Sundays With Lola” off their upcoming Alchemy project has an easy going acoustic boom bap sound, but the lyrics reflect a racing mind.  Noah pursues his leading lady while dealing with painful rejections and thirst guilt.  But just when Noah falls back, his love interest falls into his arms.  ”Sundays With Lola” is a short, unassuming song, that has a very hopeful message.      Bandcamp

Noah Bility Sees Through Smoke & Mirrors

Smoke & Mirrors Feat. Tatiana Alvarez (Official Video) from Bright Lights Music Group (BLMG) on Vimeo.

You guys know that I believe music should have substance.  The past blog posts have covered domestic abuse, college struggles, and theology.  But when I came across Noah Bility’s “Smoke & Mirrors” video on 2DopeBoyz, I only watched because the cute tenderoni in the screencap. Once I pressed play, I soon realized that a baby haired brotha with Digable Planets flava is a weakness. Before I confess my thirst struggles in next week’s life group, let me explain how promising Noah is.  His conscious, laid back delivery is a descendant of 90’s Hip Hop jazz that I still love today.  On his 2011 EP, Saturday In December, Noah’s lyrics are contemporary in its social critique (“So What’s It Gonna Be”?) but also optimistic and idealist (“Wait For You”).  ”Smoke & Mirrors” visually captures both dimensions of Noah’s lyricism. The video is about as basic as you can get, with head on shots of Noah awkwardly transitioning to the lovely vocalist Tatiana Alvarez.  However, even in weakness, there’s strength.  The simple video helps me focus on Noah’s poetic rhymes.  He floats through double meanings, name drops from Leonardo to Malcolm X, and ear-catching spiritual gems (“mustard seeds in the hand of Christ”).  After listening to his work, I firmly believe that Noah can maintain musical integrity while being mainstream accessible. As a new fan, I’m looking forward to the journey.  Twitter  Facebook  Bandcamp
